How a preacher in the Bahamas impacted a girl in the Midwest

I was saddened to hear of the loss of Dr. Myles Monroe and his wife Ruth this past Sunday. I remember seeing him on TBN as a young girl when my mom would watch Praise the Lord. I remember him speaking about faith and how God wants us to live our lives in faith not sometimes, but every day of our lives. His words were like seeds that fell into my heart and spirit and I decided I wanted to live a faith filled life like that!

Fast Forward to 2014, I have many stories that have required faith and I’ve seen Gods faithfulness in my life. After Dr. Monroe’s untimely death, I revisited a book someone bought for me that he wrote entitled, Waiting and Dating. It is such a great book for people who are single, in a serious courtship, and people who want to have a relationship that lasts. Besides this book, he has preached many sermons!
I am on Instagram a lot more since I got rid of my Facebook this year. I have seen more quotes and pictures to fill a library! I’ve seen some good quotes and horrible quotes, truthful quotes, and quotes that make you feel good. I bet 5 bucks it’s a quote or picture for what ever is going on in your life right now. I’ve seen young people share on Instagram that they want something real when it comes to relationships. They want it to last, they want it to be passionate, they want it to be everything they see on tv or Instagram. My favorite posts are the ones of BeyoncĂ© and Jay- Z, or Kim K and Kanye, and how their love has become #relationshipgoals. I just want to say it is a FANTASY! Many young girls and guys have created a fantasy of love that is unrealistic and doesn’t prepare them to be someone’s wife or husband.
There is one clip from a sermon he preached that I wrote down notes of what everyman should be and what every women should wait for.

Dr. Monroe listed four traits every woman should recognize in a man who’s ready to be married.

1. He should be in the presence of God
Basically, he is living in communion with God, daily.
2. He should be working
Good work ethic can go a long way
3. He should be a protector and able to cultivate you
You want someone to step in front of you not hide behind you when danger comes. When a man can cultivate you, he can bring out the best in you because he has the ability to create.
4. He should be able to teach the word of God
He will not only be teaching you, but your children. He has to know word of God.

Ultimately, as women, we should be waiting for and trusting God for a man that encompasses all these qualities. Thank you Dr. Monroe for being kingdom minded and influencing others to be kingdom minded in all areas of life.

God is that you?

I remember being a young girl and I thought I would hear my mom calling my name. I would run to my mom asking her, “Mommy did you call me?” She would say no I didn’t call you. My mom taught me after that encounter, if I ever heard my name called and it wasn’t her, to say Yes Lord! I didn’t understand that at first, but as I’ve grown older, I realized my mom was training my ear to hear Gods voice. Have you ever wanted to know what Gods opinion about something going on in your life? You prayed, fasted, read the word, talked to a trusted friend, your mom, dad, the dog, and still you had no answer? One thing that I do know about myself, is that I hear from God. He speaks to me all the time. There are moments in my life where I felt I could not hear Him clearly. I was frustrated wanting to get Gods perspective but I was like, God did you say this or that? I was confused, I would ask myself God is this me or you? So some questions maybe, How do I know God is talking to Me?
Being in communion and relationship with God opens the ability for us to hear him speak. The bible says in John 10:27 My sheep recognize my voice. I know them and they follow me. Obedience to the Holy Spirit keeps you sensitive to Gods voice. Disobedience can interfere with what God wants to say to you! Another cool thing about God is that He uses many avenues to talk to us. He used a bush when He spoke to Moses, prophets, dreams (my favorite), donkeys, and Angels. Having a sense of peace is another way I know God speaks to me. He is not the author of confusion (1st Corinthians. 14:33) so when God speaks to you, peace should follow what He says. Also, what He said can and should be backed up with scripture. Meaning, you can find a scripture that will confirm what He has said. There are many more ways I’m not mentioning that God speaks to us. Even an audible voice, which is super rare, like He used when getting Samuels attention . When the Lord first called Samuel, Samuel didn’t even recognize Gods voice! He replied yes, here I am. He ran to the priests Eli’s room and asked, Eli did you call me? Eli said no and sent him back to bed. This happened three times, before Eli understood it was God who was calling him. Eli the told Samuel, the next time you hear the voice calling you reply ‘Yes Lord, your servant is Listening.’ This story alone, proves that it takes practice developing hearing Gods voice. He was taught to say Yes Lord, so God could trust Samuel with His messages. The more you respond in obedience to what God is saying, He will confirm what He said and peace will follow suit. Can the Lord trust you with His messages? Finally my last point! Samuel was not even 13 when God began to talk to him about what he was doing in Israel, even with the Eli and his family!! God is no respecter of person. He will speak to anyone who is willing to listen and seek Him! So get a Q-Tip, clean out your ears, clean out your heart and find out what God is saying today! He loves you that much that He has something to speak to you everyday!

Ummm Hello?! Where’s mine??

Alrighty guys, Happy November! I was on my way to school praying one day this week when God downloaded something into my spirit. He has been dealing with me about being persistent and knowing that He is handling EVERYTHING that concerns me. I was like man this is deep!! Lol I was so overwhelmed. Let me paint a picture for those of you like me who want to get their stuff!! I’m being silly but 1st Samuel has some great things that we can take away and eat on for days! The Prophet Samuel is so bomb they gave him 2 books! That’s how you know you’ve made it when they name a whole book after you and divide it! Before I digress, I am reminded Samuels story started before Samuel was born. It started with his mother, Hannah, who was unable to have babies. Hannah’s husband had 2 wives. The other wife was Peninnah and she was having baby after baby after baby. Peninnah started to tease and mock Hannah. Maybe because her husband loved Hannah more than her but, Peninnah took the opportunity to remind Hannah not just on one occasion but, year after year of torment. Even in the Sanctuary of God! So my question to you is, what Peninnahs do you have in your life? It could be insecurity, it could be comparison, it could be the enemy who would try to highlight circumstances or people and block you from hearing Gods voice?
What is distracting you from hearing Gods voice?
There is always going to be a Peninnah in your life, so what are you going to do about it? Will Peninnah hinder you from seeking God for an answer? Will fear, intimidation, comparison, hold you captive? Or will Peninnah push you to quiet the voices and hear the voice of God? Your persistence with the Lord could produce Samuel or your lack of persistence can leave you bitter. Choose to be persistent, don’t become bitter, and give birth to Samuel!

So how do I get my answer?

1. Pour Out your heart to God through prayer and reading the word . It is the segue to hearing the voice of God in our lives. He is able to download mysteries and secrets to us this way.
2. Be persistent ! God didn’t answer Hannah’s prayer in one day. He could if He wanted to, however, there is no formula to get a prayer through. It was Hannah’s persistence that got Gods attention.
3. Step out in faith! If you read in 1st Samuel after Eli sent her home, Hannah had to know her husband to make a baby, Okay?! I am not sure of a more eloquent way to say that but there, I said it! Lol seriously, the praying, the waiting grows OUR faith and causes us to activate what is on the inside of us!

I want what’s mine, do you?
